[14:00] Faith Diesel: In case some of you don’t know me. Im Faith and Im a moderators & ST (storyteller) here.

[14:01] Faith Diesel: and today I am doing a class on making potions
[14:01] Faith Diesel: we did the first half yesterday and I will repeat both halves next week
[14:02] Faith Diesel: dont worry too much if you missed the first half
[14:02] Faith Diesel: I have included moments in the session when you can ask questions about what is being discussed. Please ask questions at those moments or if they are off subject save them to the end.
[14:02] Faith Diesel: Let me re- cap. In Part 1 we filled in an nc to give to the ST (all but Qn.3). Hands out the Floppy biscuit nc.

[14:05] Faith Diesel: You CAN poison or curse someone just by using the HUD (/9PoisonThem & /9CurseThem). No ST required, just do it yourself and if you target the correct resist is built in.
[14:05] Faith Diesel: You DONT have to fill in this notecard to create a potion/enchant an object. It is only there if you want to think out your potion in advance to minimise the time in IM during the creation rp.

[14:06] Faith Diesel: you can rp any curse then use the cursethem
[14:06] Bibiana Sugarplum: just curious what happens when you do /9curse htme

[14:07] Faith Diesel: so the curse you rp should reflect that
[14:07] Bibiana Sugarplum: so you do /9cursethem and if is says successful you then roleplay it or rold play before and then do the /9 to see if it is success

[14:08] Faith Diesel: then use the hud command

[14:08] Faith Diesel: and if successful you can rp accordingly
[14:08] Faith Diesel: if unsuccessfull also
[14:08] Faith Diesel: You DO have to call an ST to make a potion/enchant an object which is going to be used by a character in your absence.
[14:09] Faith Diesel: this is because the affects of the potion need to be recorded for use later
[14:10] Faith Diesel: Let’s assume for this example though that Fate is rping making these biscuits. I called an ST in OOC group chat. I posted my nc in the ST im and I answered the ST’s questions. The ST asked me to attempt to make the biscuits then to dice roll:
[14:10] Bibiana Sugarplum: ok so if they are there in front of me and I am making a currsed cookie.... if the are going to eat it in front of me... I just do the /9curse and not ST needed
[14:10] Faith Diesel: exactly because you can rp what might happen
[14:11] Faith Diesel: but if you make a biscuit and leave it around for someone to find
[14:11] Faith Diesel: there has to be some record to say what will happen if you eat this biscuit

[14:12] Faith Diesel: let me show you the rp i did making these biscuits
[14:12] Faith Diesel: Fate of Arden picks up her ingredients from the table: flour eggs sugar and butter and makes a simple biscuit dough them she splits the dough into two halves mixing one with lavender and Lilac and putting the other half aside for the moment. As she mixes she chants a spell in fae.....

[14:13] Faith Diesel: The ST then asked me to dice roll. All potions are PvA. The choice is then Novice, Skilled, Expert & Legendary.
[14:13] Faith Diesel: I immediately discounted Expert and Legendary. It would be like a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Too much power for such a simple spell.
[14:13] Faith Diesel: The biscuits will affect a human sized person but just accentuating the natural characteristics of the ingredients. The human size pushes me towards skilled and the spell itself seems to me on the cusp between novice and skilled. I go for skilled as that is the highest of the two options.
[14:14] Faith Diesel: does that make sense?
[14:14] Illyanya Marakova nods
[14:14] Bibiana Sugarplum: yes
[14:14] Faith Diesel: legendary is basically hand of god
[14:15] Faith Diesel: novice you could probably do without much magic or skill at all

[14:17] Faith Diesel: your stat will automatically give a weighting for your skill level

[14:17] Faith Diesel: and remember even if you fail you are learning
[14:18] Faith Diesel: infact you get higher stats from failing than succeeding

[14:24] Faith Diesel: at the moment STs are assisting in most dice rolls
[14:24] Faith Diesel: until people find it a bit easier
[14:24] Bibiana Sugarplum: good they make me nervous.... have no idea what the numbers mean
[14:24] Faith Diesel: you the player actually roll the dice though
[14:25] Bibiana Sugarplum: yes but the interpertation
[14:25] Faith Diesel: ST just storytells the result

[14:27] Fate of Arden curses and throws away the ruined half of the her biscuits and begins to mix the second half of the dough with honey and shreaded daisies. She chants this time taking her time to pronounce the words carefully....

[14:26] Faith Diesel: If she had succeeded the dice roll would look more like this:

[14:27] Faith Diesel: The ST would then ask me in IM is I want a single or multiple portions of the biscuits or if I want to limit them by duration.
[14:28] Faith Diesel: In this case Fate wants to make a small bag of biscuits so she needs to do a quantity roll. The ST would then tell me to roll a d6 (in this case):
[14:28] Illyanya Marakova: "As a ST can you assign bonuses to the rolls? I mean since you were extra careful in the second attempt would you get a better chance to succede?"
[14:28] Faith Diesel: we cannot affect dice rolls at all
[14:29] Illyanya Marakova: "ok"
[14:29] Faith Diesel: we can only interpret the outcome
[14:29] Faith Diesel: and then only within set boundaries
[14:29] Sulsaries Sorciere: Will the Storyteller tell us which die to use, or is it a simple D20?
[14:30] Faith Diesel: they will not tell you which PvA to use for a potion
[14:30] Faith Diesel: but they will tell you which duration or quantity roll to use
[14:30] Faith Diesel: based on how you want to use the potion

[14:31] Faith Diesel: so if you use legendary to make the biscuits - you could do it
[14:31] Faith Diesel: but would be an enormous waste of power
[14:32] Bibiana Sugarplum: so when making the potion you would use a ability roll.. but when going for the lenght or amount you need a ST so you can roll a numbered die
[14:32] Illyanya Marakova: "So if I am making a potion I need to decide what to use. I being a Demon of Poisons should use a higher power for poisons or should i use a lower one brecause they are easier?"
[14:32] Faith Diesel: yes potions & enchantments are ability rolls
[14:32] Faith Diesel: dont think about what you can do when choosing
[14:33] Faith Diesel: think about what the potion needs to succeed
[14:33] Faith Diesel: like i did above
[14:33] Bibiana Sugarplum: I think Illyana is has to do more with the strength of the potion you are making.
[14:33] Illyanya Marakova: "yes"
[14:33] Faith Diesel: the biscuits were at the novice skilled end of the spectrum
[14:34] Faith Diesel: especially as the ingredients were themselves a relaxant
[14:34] Faith Diesel: so didnt need much magic to make the user go all floppy
[14:34] Illyanya Marakova: "Ok. i understand now"
[14:34] Faith Diesel: but it was for use on a person
[14:35] Faith Diesel: so more skilled than novice
[14:35] Faith Diesel: novice is more small inanimate objects
[14:35] Faith Diesel: that make sense?

[14:36] Faith Diesel: this meant that there were 5biscuits in the small bag fate put them in
[14:37] Faith Diesel: So there are 3 options: single use potion/enchantment (no secondary diceroll), multiple portions (quantity secondary diceroll) or time limit (duration secondary diceroll)
[14:37] Faith Diesel: o) Any questions?

[14:38] Faith Diesel: Now Fate has made her biscuits and she hands them over to her client.
[14:38] Illyanya Marakova: "Are there similiar rules for putting an enchant on a sword or such?"
[14:38] Bibiana Sugarplum: wait time is how long the potion has affect
[14:38] Faith Diesel: exactly the same for enchanting an object
[14:39] Bibiana Sugarplum: effect
[14:39] Faith Diesel: that would be a duration roll yes Bib
[14:39] Faith Diesel: In this case I gave Claysin the notecard which said what the biscuits did Qn 1, how to rp the appearance of biscuits Qn 2. & what to do if someone wanted to eat a biscuit Qn 3.

[14:40] Faith Diesel: These can be edited to suit the extent of the information you want a player to know. For instance you might want to hide both what the potion does & the outcomes of the dice rolls and only give these to the ST.
[14:40] Faith Diesel: I could have used a prop (which I do sometimes) with a notecard & notegiver script in it.
[14:41] Faith Diesel: would you like to see a potion prop i made?
[14:41] Bibiana Sugarplum: yes
[14:41] Faith Diesel: let me see if i can find it
[14:41] Faith Diesel: you can click it if you like
[14:42] Faith Diesel: this is very simple to do
[14:42] Faith Diesel: it has 2 scripts and a nc
[14:42] Faith Diesel: one script does the text over it
[14:42] Faith Diesel: and one is an nc giver
[14:43] Faith Diesel: So Claysin might give his friend a biscuit (copy of the nc) and the friend would have to call an ST in OOC group chat.
[14:43] Faith Diesel: The friend would need to copy the nc to the ST in the ST IM/conf. so that they could find the database entry. The ST would then ask the friend to rp attempting to eat the biscuits and give the eater the dice roll (This is the eaters resist to the enchantment):

[14:44] Sulsaries Sorciere: So if Smith succeeds, he isn't enchanted, and if he fails, he is?
[14:45] Bibiana Sugarplum: he barely succeeds in eating the cookie??
[14:45] Faith Diesel: he can roll to resist or assist
[14:45] Faith Diesel: but usually resist
[14:45] Faith Diesel: no he barely succeeds in resisting the spell

[14:46] Sulsaries Sorciere: Ahh, so he manages to eat it, and he roll determines whether the spell kicks in.

[14:46] Faith Diesel: The options are Abysmal fail, failure, bare success, success & stellar success and I note-carded a possible result for all. In this case the result was a bare success:

You resist going all floppy for a duration. (Roll d4 for duration. You may roll again to see if you continue to resist after that time.)

[14:48] Faith Diesel: The aim is to have a nice spread of outcomes from abysmal failure to stellar success.

[14:54] Faith Diesel: Bare success is also interesting because there tends to be some minor success with some adverse element. In this case the eater resists for a duration and then needs to re-roll to continue resisting or not!
